Des haltes "répit" pour les personnes en situation d’itinérance à Montréal / Drop-in day centres for homeless people in Montreal

Dernière mise à jour - 24 avril 2020

[ENGLISH BELOW ]

We have been collaborating for a few weeks with the City of Montreal to open safe rest areas that offer, 7 days a week, respite for people experiencing homelessness (with all the necessary security measures). The social distancing measures necessary to limit the spread of the virus have unfortunately had the perverse effect of limiting access to community resources which have had to reduce their capacity, while pushing the usual places of respite (cultural, commercial) to close their doors thus restricting the places available for people experiencing homelessness to rest safely.

In addition, the enforcement of these measures by the police or by STM agents contributes to making access to public spaces more complex for those who need to rest. Respite areas therefore provide a space to rest for those most vulnerable to the crisis, while respecting the safety and hygiene measures that are particularly essential for those most at risk of contracting the virus. The City has now opened 4 four of these reception centers, and Exeko is coordinating and mobilizing volunteers at two of these:

  • Saint-George Church : reception from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • BanQ (Hall of the Grande Library) reception from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
